A Walk in the Park, Etc.

Song of the Day: Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae

Update on the week!

Monday: We watched the final episode of season 1 of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. We highly recommend the series, and season 2 will be premiering on May 6 on PBS! Here's a trailer for the first season:

Tuesday: Chili for dinner!

Wednesday: We went for a lovely walk around downtown and then into Old Salem. Fitz wanted to show Katherine a particular tree he runs by because it smells like laundry detergent. Katherine concurs; it does smell like fresh linens! Here's a picture of it:
The Bounce tree!
Thursday: Something rather frightening happened early that morning. Katherine was awoken by a roll of thunder and a flash of lightning, only to discover that she had apparently slept-walked sometime in the night and curled up back asleep on the couch. Every once in a while, we both sleep-talk, but this is the first instance of sleep-walking, and it quite frankly freaked us both out a little bit. Hopefully that was a one time occurrence.

Friday: Fitz had a rather long day at work, but we've had a lovely evening of pasta and baseball. We're cheering on the Braves, and it looks like Chipper Jones is having a great night!

All in all, a good week and a good weekend ahead of us!

Oh Heathcliff, Don't You Care?

Song of the Day: Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye

Ooh, it got a little chilly this week. The high today was somewhere in the high sixties, but it sure didn't feel like it.

On Saturday, we drove down to Charlotte to start scoping out some possible places for us to live beginning sometime in August. While we didn't really find any winners, it was still a good day for us to think about what it is that we want and what's important to us. We almost feel like calling in HGTV's HouseHunters to help us find a place, but Katherine pointed out that we'd only get three options to choose from, and that doesn't really appeal to us. Still, we think we're on the right path, and hopefully we'll figure it out soon!

Tonight, we're hoping we'll be able to get one more ticket to go see a modern adaptation of Wuthering Heights at the theater across the street. There's a film festival going on this week in Winston-Salem, and so there are a lot of indy films being screened this week. Katherine was able to purchase the very last ticket to tonight's movie, but we're hoping at least one person doesn't show up so we can both go! If not, oh well. We'll still make the most of our Thursday evening! Wish us luck!

Be Kind To Lawyers!

Song of the Day: Someday We'll Know by New Radicals

Katherine discovered something rather amazing yesterday, and while we're sad we're blogging about it a day late, we wanted to let everyone know that there is such a thing as International Be Kind To Lawyers Day, celebrated on April 10. If you'd like to learn more about this festive holiday, here's the website link. It's a rather fun website with cool lawyer facts and quotes. Fitz would like to stress, however, that just because such a day exists, it does not mean that you can be mean to lawyers the other 364 days of the year. Also, Katherine has not recited a lawyer joke in over a year our of respect for her husband's career (although many a lawyer joke are rather funny...).

Brendan, Katherine, and Allen...adorable...
On Monday, Katherine's parents and brothers came to Winston-Salem to visit, and we had a great time getting to spend time together. Fitz was able to join Katherine and her family for lunch, but then had to go back to work. Katherine and her family were able to walk around downtown, enjoy the sunshine, and grab coffee and snacks at her favorite spot, Camino Bakery. Katherine really appreciated the trip her family made just to see them, even for a short while. It was great to see Allen and Brendan since we hadn't seen either of them since Thanksgiving!

This evening, we went over to our church to help cook and serve dinner for the Shalom Table, which feeds weekly meals to folks around Winston-Salem. We made nine pounds of pasta, 280 meatballs, a lot of steamed veggies, salad, bread, and a ton of grapes. And of course, we had some delicious brownies and cookies for dessert. We had a fun time with our Bible study group, whom we served with, and with everyone that we met. Overall, it was a success! We were just happy we made enough food! Cooking for just us two can prove tricky enough sometimes...

Book update! Fitz is reading John Grisham's The Broker, and Katherine is re-reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

We Plead the Fifth!

Song of the Day: Better Days Will Come by Tahiti 80

First, we have to apologize for our silence on our blog recently! Hopefully we will be more diligent in April!

But now, so much to update!

This past Tuesday evening, we walked across the street to the Stevens Center to hear a performance of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. We had great seats in the balcony with a perfect view of the entire orchestra. As Beethoven is one of Fitz's favorite composers, he enjoyed the performance immensely. Katherine always loves going to hear classical music, and it reminded her of going to Mostly Mozart concerts at her church back in Charlotte growing up. We encourage anyone who ever has the opportunity to hear a live performance to go; you won't regret it!

Yesterday, we went to the membership meeting of the Preserve Historic Forsyth County Society. Why? Because Katherine entered their essay contest and was asked to attend and read her essay along with the other finalists. Katherine did a great job reading her essay, which only had to be 100 words. We heard a wonderful history about the church where the meeting was held, at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church, and learned that Martin Luther King, Jr. came and spoke there back in the 60s. Finally, they announced the winners, and Katherine won second place! Everyone was very nice and gracious, and we hope to attend their meetings and events again before our move to Charlotte.

This morning, we're enjoying a lazy morning on the couch, listening to the oral arguments from the Supreme Court from this past week. Katherine is doing a good job figuring out which justice is speaking, and Fitz is doing a wonderful job explaining what they're saying!

Tonight at church, we're having a potluck dinner, and the theme is International Cuisine! Katherine is going to make a couscous salad. We'll see how it turns out!
